The MagSafe Battery Case only comes in white, to the dismay of many (including me). But it's easier to slide in and out of pockets without worry. The magnetic hold is strong, but it will wiggle a tad bit while attached. The difference is that with the MagSafe Battery Case, you can use it with any MagSafe case you want or not, and it's much easier to take it off when you don't need it. When the MagSafe Battery Pack is on, it feels quite similar to holding an older iPhone in the Smart Battery Case due to the "bump" on the back of the iPhone. It feels more comfortable in my pocket than both the Anker and mophie batteries. But I was able to slide it easily in and out of the back pocket of my jeans without it slipping off, so that's a bonus. However, it does wiggle a bit, and with enough pressure or force, it comes off easily. Once you snap it on your iPhone (with or without a MagSafe-compatible case), it's pretty much in place. While it's not as strong as the PopSockets PopGrip for MagSafe (with a claim of 6x stronger magnets than other products) that I use daily, the Apple MagSafe Battery Pack magnets are slightly stronger than the Anker and mophie magnetic battery packs.

I was surprised at how strong the magnetic attachment is. On the flat side with the MagSafe attachment, it has a smooth silicone padding, which prevents your iPhone from getting scratched up with the battery pack. The MagSafe Battery Pack uses a hard plastic material with a soft-touch finish, reminiscent of the old white MacBooks from 2006. In my real-life comparison, the Apple MagSafe Battery Pack is just a smidge bigger than Anker's but slimmer and much smaller than mophie's while retaining that similar thinness profile. For comparison purposes, the Anker one is 3.66-by-2.46-by-0.63 inches and about 4.6 ounces, while mophie's is 2.64-by-4.41-by-0.49 inches and 4.77 ounces. Though Apple doesn't give exact specifications, according to the Amazon page listing, the dimensions of the MagSafe Battery Pack are 4.46-by-3.24-by-0.93 inches, and it weighs about 6.53 ounces. Along the bottom, you'll find a single Lightning port, as well as an LED status indicator. Even though it's a hard material, it has a smooth, soft-touch finish on the exterior that is pleasant to touch. Apple seems to have used a hard plastic material for the MagSafe Battery Pack, and it is a bit reminiscent of the original white plastic body MacBook from the 2006 - rounded corners and all.

There is also a Windows machine available so we'll look at both those options. While we were under the impression that the MagSafe Battery Pack would have a silicone finish like the Smart Battery Cases that came before it, that's not the case at all.

It's a bastard stepchild of a company who only made Mac software out of market pressure, and you can tell their hearts weren't in it. They used to do a more fully featured one called discWelder Chrome, but this was PC only & is long since discontinued and the only other ones I know of are the also discontinued Sonic DVD-Audio Creator (which is what we use) and the Open Source DVD-A authoring tools at SourceForge - the good news there is that this one now does full hybrid authoring although I do not know how usable it is in the real world or indeed if it will run on Mac OS - but a bootcamped Mac should handle it easily enough.ĭolby Labs now handle all the licensing for MLP Lossless as it is the codec used on Blu-ray otherwise known as Dolby True HD - the only difference is additional channel support & higher sample rate support in 5.1 as DVD-A MLP is capped at 96kHz for 5.1 whereas Blu-ray will do 192kHz in 5.1 and the creation of the hidden AC3 core stream that is required for Blu-ray discs (lossless surround support is only available over HDMI or analogue, and lightpipe/coaxial connections will always output core audio (AC3 or DTS). DVD-Audio is still a very good format to work with, especially a properly formatted DVD-A/V hybrid style disc as it will play on all DVD players in one form or another.ĭare I ask what you are going to use for authoring, as I am honestly not aware of anything on Mac OS that can do this - I remember that there was once an abstraction layer tool from Minnetonka Audio called discWelder Bronze for Mac, but this is very limited in scope & function.
